Welcome to the JAA official website

First started in 2003, the purpose of the Japan Association of Arbitrators (“JAA”) is to foster the development of arbitrators and mediators who are adept at resolving both domestic and international disputes through “alternative dispute resolution methods” such as arbitration and mediation. We do this through various means, including conducting and sharing legal research on the field and its impact on Japanese legal and general societies and providing skill-building training for practitioners in these areas.

The JAA is currently home to a number of noted lawyers specializing in the practice of arbitration and it is attracting many young professionals, creating an influential organization that can meet the needs of its members and offer beneficial services to society as a whole.

Japanese society is increasingly developing an interest and trust in international arbitration. Seizing upon this moment, the JAA will further endeavor to create a system of arbitration and mediation to help bring Japan in line with the global community. Indeed, conditions for arbitration have already been improved by the impressive founding of the Japan International Dispute Resolution Center and the Japan International Mediation Center in Kyoto in 2018.
